Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Share

‘Cognitive behaviour therapy’, is a well-known evidencedbased psychological treatment approach or as commonly referred to as CBT. This evidence-basedpsychological therapy is based on the fundamental notion that thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, and behaviours are interconnected. How we see orperceive things- cognitively or emotionally and our behavioural processes are suggestedto be at the heart of psychological distress/ personal suffering. [1] Manyof our thoughts, emotions and behaviours are unconscious or automatic and CBT basedtherapies seek to unpack this phenomena and address this as the core focus of itstherapeutic approach.[2]

It is important to understand that CBT incorporates several therapies, including but not limited to acceptance and commitment therapy(ACT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), mindfulness-based cognitive therapy(e.g. MiBCT), behavioural activation therapies (BA), and schema therapy.

At Co-Psychology we strive to tailor our therapy approachesto best serve the person and what is presented. Prior to deciding a treatment approach,we take time working through a relevant assessment process. The assessment helpsinform which treatment approach will best support the person.
