Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
‘Cognitive behaviour therapy’, is a well-known evidenced based psychological treatment approach and is commonly referred to as CBT. CBT is based on the fundamental notion that thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, and behaviours are interconnected. How we see or perceive things- cognitively or emotionally and our behavioural processes are suggested to be at the heart of psychological distress/personal suffering. [1]
Many of our thoughts, emotions and behaviours are unconscious or automatic and CBT based therapies seek to unpack this phenomena and address this as the core focus of its therapeutic approach.[2]
It is important to understand that CBT incorporates several therapies, including but not limited to acceptance and commitment therapy(ACT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), mindfulness-integrated cognitive therapy(e.g. MiBCT), behavioural activation therapies (BA), and schema therapy.
At Co-Psychology we strive to tailor our therapy approach to best serve the person. Prior to deciding a treatment approach, we will take time working through an assessment process and getting to know our client. This process will helps inform which intervention or approach will best support the person in their pathway to feeling better and living life with increased feeling of wellbeing and balance.
